Humane Education
The Kaeli Kramer Humane Education Center, located at the Holtsville Ecology and Wildlife Site is home to two rescued mustangs, Callie and Valor. Located at the center is an interpretive program about protecting America’s wild horses and preserving our rapidly disappearing public lands. The Ecology Site, home to many captivating rescue animals, was one of Kaeli’s favorite places to visit as a young child.
The Foundation brings educational programs to school children and the community to raise awareness about the compassionate and responsible treatment of all animals. As part of the Foundation’s community outreach, our program for developmentally delayed young adults brings Humane Education to this underserved population. This program has included volunteer work experience in local animal shelters. We have also sponsored large animal rescue training for first responders, supported local spay and neuter programs, and provided hands-on opportunities for Scout troops.
Summer Humane Education Program
The Foundation conducts an annual, week-long, summer Humane Education program. This unique program provides hands-on learning experiences for elementary and middle school students.
The students have the opportunity to meet and interact with many animals: horses, goats, birds of prey, service animals, shelter dogs and cats, reptiles, even a boa constrictor!
The program features many guest speakers including veterinarians, SPCA officers, dog trainers, wildlife rehabilitators, Department of Environmental Conservation officers and beekeepers. It offers the students an opportunity to learn about many animal welfare issues from different perspectives.
Students work with shelter dogs guiding them through agility courses and teaching them obedience skills to enhance their adoptability. Under the supervision of licensed wildlife rehabilitators, the children learn about the proper care of injured wildlife. Our goal is to foster compassion and empower students to make kind choices.

Highlights of the Program
*learning about grooming, hoof care, equine massage
*using a stethoscope to listen to vital signs of different animals
*reading radiographs
*developing relationships with all kinds of animals from friendly mice to a shy armadillo.
